I didn’t think I needed medication

All I can recall from my first few months of motherhood is stumbling through them in a sleep-deprived fog.  I mentioned to a few people that I just didn't feel it. That thing. The blissful all-encompassing love I thought motherhood was supposed to be. Everyone reassured me that it would come; that what I was feeling was normal and for some women it takes a little longer to fall in love with their babies. I assumed what I was going through was like most everything else in parenthood — a...

Camden Eight Months Old

My sweetheart is eight months old, and I can't believe it! This month went by way too fast. Camden is darling, and growing more ornery and mischievous everyday. He is crawling now, which just happened this week. Everyone was right when they told me life is much easier when babies stay put! Camden is into everything and we have majorly procrastinated on baby proofing. Whoops! He is especially infatuated with outlets and cords. Of course! Let's pick the most dangerous things to play with! Now that he's crawling, he's never far from me....

Camden Seven Months Old

It's so hard to believe we have a seven month old! I know I say it all the time, but Camden really is growing so fast. I swear every morning when I pick him up out of his crib he is heavier and longer and his PJ's fit more snugly. At this age Camden is sitting very well, rolling with ease, loves to stand (with support) and still rocks on all fours nearly every time he is on the floor. He has crawled a little bit a couple times, but mostly...

What Having a Baby Taught Me to Appreciate About my Mom

I didn’t want her to leave. “Please stay,” I told her through tears, half naked on the couch fumbling to bring my baby to my breast. She squeezed my shoulders and told me I’m doing a great job. It sure didn’t feel like it. The week was a blur of late nights fading into early mornings filled with nipple pain, tiny cries and very little sleep. She was there through it all — bringing me food and water, washing my sheets, and holding my baby so I could take a...

Camden Three Months Old

And just like that the newborn stage is over. We have surpassed the magic 12 week mark. Things are more stable, but I wouldn't call them easy. I'm coming to terms with the fact that this will never be easy. I do feel less like I'm drowning...

Camden Two Months Old

Baby boy is growing so fast. Literally right before our eyes. I swear this week he outgrew his newborn sleep sack over night. He smiles all the time now!! And he coos and grunts and "chats" with us. He holds his head up really well and will stare at a toy or the mobile in his crib. He is content on his own (if he has been changed and fed!) for about 10-15 minutes. He is still gaining weight very quickly and now weighs 12 pounds!! Many of our breastfeeding issues have been...

Camden’s Birth Story

Baby boy must have read my disheartened blog post from January 15th because I woke up the next day in labor. Except that I didn't know it was labor for about 12 hours. We last saw the doctor on January 13th, a week before my due date. I wasn't dilated at all and the baby hadn't dropped yet. My doctor said he was 99% sure he would see me the next week on my due date, and scheduled me for a sonogram to check on Baby Hegz' growth and start discussing how...
