2015 Year in Review

So here we are, nearly two weeks into 2016, and here I am just now getting to this post. 2015 was a hard year. It had its good times, but for the most part I wouldn't call it the best. I felt like I was pregnant for the whole year, which aside from about two months, I was. I decided to focus on photos for this year in review, and tried to decide on just one photo per month, which was hard because some months had a lot going on! The Year I was 25

As a kid, the concept of adulthood was this huge mystery to me. I was very intrigued by what it meant to be a grownup and how I would get there. I would observe my parents' interactions with other adults -- at the bank, at the store, at the doctor's office. I was especially observant of the things they tried to hide from me. The way they never talked about money. The way my dad poured over the bills at the kitchen table writing checks, sighing heavily and rubbing his...

2014 Year in Review

I really can't believe another year has passed. Time seems to only be speeding up the older I get. It's even more mind boggling to think that May marks four years since I graduated from college. That's enough time to have earned another degree. Enough time to have...

2013 Year in Review

I love New Year's. I love reflecting.  I love a fresh start. And I love resolutions. Some people think they're dumb or overrated or unnecessary, but I enjoy setting goals. So here goes! 2013 was a pretty incredible year. And it went SO fast. I can't really believe that it's over. Here's a little glimpse into the past year for da Heger's (or, well, mostly me with a few mentions of Steven and Dixie). Running thingz Guys, I still can't believe I'm a runner. (I hesitate to call myself that. But I guess I...

The Year I Was 23

I turned 24 last Friday. Of course I wanted to post this on my actual birthday, but, well, that didn't happen, obvi. Last year on my 23rd birthday I went to work as a reporter for PoliticalFiber.com. My co-workers (really, just my BFF's) made me choclate cupcakes with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. They also took me to lunch (Mexican, duh), and I don't recall working much that day. More than 130 people wrote on my Facebook wall. (Yeah, so I take note of that kind of stuff, okay?). My husband surprised me...

2012 In Review — Photos

2012 was pretty great, and I'm looking forward to 2013. January In January I started working as a reporter for the website PoliticalFiber.com — a project with the University of Kansas School of Journalism. Although challenging at times, I truly loved my time there. I loved working on campus (despite the 35 min commute), covering local politics with an emphasis on topics of importance to young people. I learned SO much and grew both as a journalist and as a person. I also had some incredible co-workers who became good friends. All...
