Overland Park Fall Festival

This is another one of our fall traditions that I love. We currently live about a mile and a half from downtown OP, and I love walking downtown to the Farmer's Market and the local shops. We spent last Saturday downtown at the fall festival. I only got one photo of our little guy watching the parade on his dad's shoulders. Despite the warm temperatures, we had a great time. We even brought Dixie!...

Cider Hill Family Orchard

I love traditions. I especially love fall and holiday traditions. And I am extra excited to share them with Camden this year. The first of our fall traditions is going apple picking! Last year we waited until October, and it was too late. There were hardly any apples on the trees! So this year, I made a point to go earlier. It was a beautiful day, although a little warm for my liking. I'm so ready for cooler weather! ...

Lipstick

Stuck to the edge of my coffee cup. A cakey imprint of berry pink. A swipe of my thumb smudges the impression, and I wipe the residue on my pants. The stain is still there. Several rounds in the dishwasher and the edge still glistens pink. It sticks to my straw at restaurants. Sometimes it gets on my teeth. It comes with me to breakfast with a friend and sticks to the restaurant's coffee cup. "Aw your lipstick was so pretty," she says. "But now it's coming off."  Sometimes it's bright red. Sometimes it's barbie doll pink....

A Space

Thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, support and love following my September post. The outpouring of connection and personal messages was more than I had ever anticipated. Feeling such a strong sense of community through writing is one of my ultimate favorite things. Thank you for being a part of my community. Upon posting September, my little blog got 1,500 views in two days. I am a very open person, but I was nervous and anxious about sharing such a personal experience so broadly. However, it seems as...

Taking on the impossible

"No one who has stood for high values — love, truth, justice — has died being able to declare victory, once and for all. If we want to embrace high values, we must find some way to hang in for the long haul. Faithfulness to our gifts is the only way I know. We will die with our big goals unachieved — just as Dorothy Day and Kassie Temple did — but with the satisfaction of knowing we gave ourselves to them as fully as we could." ~ Parker Palmer...

1:00 a.m. Musings

Hello internet land. I'm here at 1 a.m. on a Friday morning for two reasons. 1) I don't work tomorrow and 2) I had a cappuccino around 8 p.m. (I knew it was a bad idea, but I couldn't stop myself). I'm not sure what I really logged in to say, except perhaps to ramble. This blog has been in the back of my mind lately. I miss writing. When I started this blog, I was unemployed and looking for something to occupy myself and give me some direction. At first I thought...

Forgiving Yourself

I'm trying to stay on top of this blogging thing. Blogging is something I've always wanted to do. Ever since the high school Xanga days before Facebook. I love having an outlet — a place to bounce around some creative energy, and collect my thoughts and experiences. When I don't make time to write, I am a less happy person. Writing is how I live and think and process. Writing is who I am. But I am also a fan of doing things well, and I would rather not do something at...
